A rangoli artist, a Chinese tea master and a Malay drum maker were among five people or businesses given awards on April 2 for promoting and passing on their skills and traditions in intangible cultural heritage to the community and younger generation.

Each recipient will be awarded a trophy, certificate of award and $5,000 cash prize in addition to an option to get up to $20,000 in project funding (subject to approval).

In a stunning showcase using 1,500 ladoos, 900 pieces of cake, 500 packets each of murukku, badushas and jangiris, a new entry was recorded in the Singapore Book of Records for the largest rangoli made up of traditional Indian sweets and snacks.
