This floor decoration yesterday set a Singapore record for the largest collage made of glass marbles – 15,000 in total.

Known as a rangoli, the 10m by 12m artwork at Gardens by the Bay was created by 57-year-old local visual artist Vijaya Mohan, with the help of more than 550 people.

The Rangoli Radiance was unveiled yesterday by Mr Heng Chee How, Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and MP for Jalan Besar GRC. A rangoli is a colourful pattern usually created on the floor using dyed rice and dry flour during Deepavali to welcome Hindu deities and bring good luck. This year’s festival begins on Saturday.

The Rangoli Radiance will be on display at Gardens by the Bay until Oct 30.
